Virtuality

Adding to my “whats in my office” blog, I picked up an Occulus Go 64GB in the last couple of weeks!

Oculus Go

This is such a cool device, and at a very reasonable price point (£250 is standard) opens up the world of VR completely!

I’ve been playing with Google Cardboard for a number of years and whilst impressive it was always limited by it ‘consuming’ my Samsung Galaxy S5 (and latterly S9) and having very restrictive interaction capabilities – an ebay bluetooth controller just didn’t quite do it.

Best stuff I’ve seen so far:-

  • Face Your Fears – proper horrific scarey stuff
    • Childrens bedroom scenes will have you breaking out in a sweat
    • Do pay for the Airplane experience, whether you’ll ever fly again is another matter
  • Overflight
    • A great little combat flight sim
    • Campaign mode – first scene is soooo immersive, took me a while to crack it – in best pantomime style “he’s behind you!!!!

I thoroughly recommend cracking open the Go for sideloading apps and other tinkering stuff

Ty Hurd has a great YouTube video on this subject at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuG1PGUfSbM
